our wedding, six years ago today!

Six years ago today, Erik, Madison & I became a family. It was the best day of my life.

If you've ever asked us about our wedding, I'm sure we've talked your ear off about how much we loved every detail from planning to the honeymoon. It's wasn't by any means an elaborate celebration but an intimate gathering of our nearest and dearest with all kinds of little personal touches thrown in - it was, after all, our day and we wanted it to really be about us, the things we love and the people we love.

If you've ever talked to us about what we do, you've probably heard me say that we live in a constant state of excitement. That is because we know that our clients are about to experience the best day of their lives, too.... and we're going to be there to tell the story of that day.

We thought we would share a little bit of our story with you in honor of our six year anniversary. Most of these photos were taken by Renee Blankartz - who I've unfortunately lost touch with over the years. EDIT TO ADD: Renee's website is: OneTreeOfLife.com

John and Irene have been happily married for 50 years. To thank them for being such wonderful parents and to commemorate this milestone, their daughter Diane booked a 50th anniversary session for them.

They were so sweet and easy to work with, and still so obviously in love after all these years. I asked them what words of wisdom they might have about marriage and Irene said: "Laugh a lot, ignore a lot....and just have fun!"

 

 

Look at them, still having fun after 50 years! What an inspiration.

We received the sweetest note from Diane yesterday - it put a huge smile on my face.

"I wanted to thank you once again for the 50th anniversary photos you took of my parents. They are so overjoyed with how great the pictures turned out - there is only ONE my mom didn't like, which should speak volumes as to your talent! :) She says these are the best photos she's ever seen of herself and that she feels beautiful! She's never said that before and I just can't thank you enough!!!"

We have decided to start a new series of posts titled 'May We Suggest'. Each post will have it's own theme and be filled with unique items and inspiration for your wedding day.

Today's theme, wood, has always been near and dear to my heart. My home is filled with wooden and faux wood trinkets.  If we were to do our wedding over again, you would be sure to see many of these items incorporated!

Shealyn and Anthony weren't actually engaged when we got together for this session... but now they are! Yay and congrats to them!

They were truly up for anything, which made the session so fun.  They have such great style, too!

Favorite... and quite possibly my most favorite image ever!

a beach adventure

While location scouting a few days ago, we ended up at this gorgeous spot.  We had a little adventure in light, sand and shells. It made us all happy.

We received the sweetest note this morning and I just wanted to share. We love our clients and what we do so much! Being a part of your wedding day means so much to us.

Her note says:

"Dear Sheri & Erik,

You guys are awesome!! We wanted to share our save-the-date with you guys.... the pictures turned out better than we could have imagined. I can't even begin to tell you how many compliments we have had and those are just the engagement photos! So excited that we found you & that you are a part of our wedding!!!"

These two were so fun to capture - so sweet, adorable and just a pleasure to work with. This session was something Dad arranged as a surprise for Mom. I'd say he brought his A game with the outfit selection, wouldn't you!?

I also love this location, The Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park. I can't get enough of the rustic tiles and vibrant colors.

This family is always so fun to work with, they have great ideas and are up for anything we suggest. I've also loved watching their boys grow up - they are becoming quite handsome young men!

We met up downtown San Diego, my favorite place to shoot. Oh the colors, oh the textures! 

Those who follow our website will probably recognize this spot. It's actually a parking garage...

 

We ducked inside one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego, Bar Basic. They have some of the best pizza I have ever tasted! The staff was super awesome and let us hang out in the VIP lounge for a bit.

 

 

Then we headed towards Petco Park. I love the colors in these:

 

They brought along their oldest son's best friend, who has become part of their family. She jumped in for a couple shots.

 

 

Brandi, you are going to have girls lining up at your door in a couple years!

kalen + katie, engaged! san diego wedding photography

We knew from the first few email exchanges that Katie and Kalen were going to be awesome to work with! We met for our initial consultation with them and we just clicked. They are just so down to earth and easy to talk to. I love that.

We decided to shoot their engagement session at Belmont Park and I have to say, it was way fun!!

This had to be the windiest day of 2009 so we just decided to have fun with it. I love this series.

Katie's eye are so genuine and soulful. Beautiful!
